The sensational NEW Sense Cera Spa at Wyndham Bangkok Queen

Spa Review: Rejuvenation and wellbeing beyond the ordinary

Spa Review: Wellbeing beyond the Ordinary

My friends are used to me disappearing off to try out the local spa, in search of special. So when I was invited to the new Bangkok Sense Cera Spa I jump at this opportunity for treatments which promise rejuvenation & wellbeing beyond the ordinary. Who doesn’t need rejuvenation? I’ll take all the wellbeing on offer, thank you very much!

The Sense Cera Siamese Spa, Wyndham Bangkok Queen (QSNCC) branch was in its pre-opening launch phase when I walked into the elegant Spa. There is an air of excitement and a whispering buzz to the place as the final touches are made. They’ve even been out to Bangkok’s Flower Market for some stunning pink Lotus flowers to make sure everything looks and feels perfect.

Without even starting my treatment I loved their attention to detail, their care and concern for my wellbeing and their desire to make a good impression!

The NEW Sense Cera Spa

This is one of several spas under the Sense Cera Siamese Spa name to be opened across Bangkok. The spa at Wyndham Garden Bangkok Sukhumvit 42 was the first, with Ramada Plaza by Wyndham Sukhumvit 48 in the pipeline.

Located in the Wyndham Queen Convention Centre Hotel and Residences, this latest branch is sure to be a winner once the word gets out.

The charm of Sense Cera Spa at Wyndham Bangkok Queen

The spa has capitalised on its stunning views offering a lesser-seen panorama of Bangkok. The Wyndham Queen has a rather special 360-degree cityscape with parkland views. Imagine a Thai massage on the 28th floor, above the hustle and bustle of city life. Or a post-treatment relaxing cup of tea with sunset views over Benjakitti park.

Those floor to ceiling windows everywhere give you the best outlook over the City of Angels, that is until you are so relaxed you no longer notice…

The Philosophy

But wait, there’s more here than a luxury spa. Sense Cera Spa aim to differentiate themselves in a crowded and competitive spa industry by going beyond a pampering spa experience.

Although the new spa menu was still being finalised at the time of my visit, expect to find packages aligned to tackling Bangkok’s health and wellness challenges such as stress, pollution, Long Covid, and insomnia. Starting with one of Bangkok’s main problems Insomnia, not surprising in a city that never sleeps.

Signature Retreat Programs

They have designed their Signature retreat programs to entice relaxation through Sense Journeys that lead you to a world of wellbeing. Traditional Thai treatments combine with Himalayan Salt Saunas and Aromatic bathing rituals to offer a deep rebalancing experience.

Kwan Jet Lag Recovery program has been designed with an Aromatic Bath, Body Exfoliation, an Uplifting Jet Lag Massage and a Hair Treatment to bring harmony to the body and mind. Permanently jet lagged as I am, sign me up!

Himalayan Salt Sauna

Guests will be offered the opportunity to start their Sense Cera Spa experience with a Himalayan Salt sauna, to aid detoxification. The health benefits are said to be especially good for those requiring anti-PM 2.5 pollution treatments or needing to tackle Long Covid.

Although I did not try the sauna, I can vouch for the sense of rejuvenation felt after my Himalayan Salt hot stone massage.

Insomnia Treatments

Sense Cera’s Insomnia treatment combines the Himalayan Salt Sauna with massage and comes from a recognition of, and a desire to relieve Bangkok of one of its major health issues, Insomnia.

A little bird told me that Tibetan Singing Bowl therapy healing will also be incorporated into some treatments in the future.

The Spa Vibe

Bright, light, and welcoming. The spa offers a variety of charming and luxurious treatment rooms. They have cleverly brought the outside indoors, minus the traffic, pollution, and stress!

The muted tones of the floral wallpaper with exotic birds and ivy-covered chandeliers, a myriad of faux pink flowers hang from the ceiling. Maya one of the therapists tells me it represents an English cottage garden. I smile and tell her this is perfect for an English Rose or even a Little Wren.

It’s not quite like any garden I know back home, but it works.  The immediate effect is soothing and calming. Everything is so bright, new and fresh.

Hair Salon

The semi open plan reception area ensures everyone can enjoy the views where ever they sit. With separate areas for both the hair salon, oriental foot massage and a cosy corner for welcome drinks and a post treatment cup of refreshing tea, it is well designed.

Foot Massage

Two large comfortable armchairs, in front of visa windows are surrounded by delicate lace curtains. This offer a certain privacy in the area called the Foot Massage Room.

My Sense Journey Treatment

My package comprises of a 60 mins Bliss Body Scrub,  90 mins Himalayan Salt Stone hot Aromatherapy oil massage, and a 60 mins moisturising Facial treatment.

Spa Consultation

We start with spa consultation and a camomile tea served in an elegant glass. A gleaming white cold face cloth is presented tightly rolled and sweet smelling, in a bird cage.

In front of me are my four choices for my body scrub and massage oil.  Each scrub and massage oil have been developed to represent different regions of Thailand. North, South, Central, and East, each with their own unique produce and style.

Do you want a strawberry seed with green tea extract scrub or one with sunflowers seeds? Between the Pomelo seed, cashews, algae, Issan silk, and tamarind seeds, I felt like I’d been on a whistle-stop tour of Thailand by the end. Decisions, decisions.

I would allow a few extra minutes before your treatment starts to complete your pre-treatment questionnaire and handle the difficult choice of which oil and scrub to choose!

This was the time my treatment was personalised to me, and gave me the opportunity for the therapists to run through a few of my health and wellness issues presenting in my body at the time. Maya, my therapist speaks excellent English.

Sense Cera Spa Suite

I am shown into one of the beautiful couples suites, which comes with its own private bathroom with a spa bath, separate shower, and toilet. It feels ultra-luxurious, the bath robe and towels gleaming white and oh-so-soft. Delicate lace curtains frame the space, the wallpaper is exquisite and from the roof hangs green ivy.

In the corner of the room, I am drawn to the soft glow of the Himalayan salt stones warming in two beautiful salt crystal lamp bowls.

Body and Massage Treatment

My body scrub is relaxing and once my skin has been polished with their mildly abrasive minerals, I shower off I settle in for the Himalayan hot stone oil massage with Maya. Maya has worked in Sydney and we start to chat about her life in Australia. However, it is not long before the warming stones of Himalayan Salt Stone massage results in very deep relaxation. I appreciated how tension disappears from my muscles. As the salt crystals are absorbed into my skin, our conversation lapses.

Facial Treatment

My last hour is a Facial with Tammy who has magic hands. Once the face mask is applied she offers a head massage, bliss.

I have reasonably sensitive skin but I left with my skin glowing from top to bottom and appreciating the skilled therapists. I slept so well that night, it’s exhausting all this pampering!

Prices

Music to my ears is that their price point is set at the reasonable, rather than the outrageous, as is often the way in Bangkok.

A 60-minute Aromatherapy massage is set to start at 1600 THB net. It’s a great deal for the price point. Get in early for appealing opening special pricing designed to attract new customers.

Spa Products

I’m impressed that Sense Cera have designed their own signature blended Aromatherapy oils and scrubs using Thai natural extracts.

For facials they apply the Phytomer Bio range. I’m quick to check out its ingredients for my sensitive skin. The range is designed to offer a treatment which ‘offers the feel good sensations of a revitalising dip in the sea’ It feels great on my skin.

Final Thoughts

One of the great joys of my Thailand life is access to a multitude of spas. One of the great challenges in this plethora of choices is to find treatments out of the ordinary.

I liked the way Sense Cera Siamese Spa combines a luxurious spa with outstanding service and a focus to tackle Bangkok’s health and wellness needs.

My three hours of spa treatments results in an early night and I slept soundly that evening. Just think what I could be like when I get into that Himalayan Salt Sauna as well!

Thank you Sense Cera Spa, I was delighted to be one of your first guests. I wish you well in your desire to bring greater Health and Wellness to those visiting or living in Bangkok

Do you have problems sleeping?
