Thanks for wandering into Little Wren’s first post for the A to Z Challenge in 2018. The life and travels of a British Aussie currently with my nest in Thailand.
It’s Amazing Thailand Tourism Year 2018, Amazing Thailand has been a very successful marketing slogan for over twenty years making Thailand one of the most popular holiday destinations in the world. We certainly won’t be alone as we wander around, we welcomed over 35 million international visitors in 2017.
So what exactly is it is the attraction, here are some of my thoughts:
Firstly Bangkok is easy to get to, there are daily flights to every continent.
Always surprising:
When you get here you will be amazed by what you see, smell, taste and hear!
Life in Bangkok whether for the tourist or as a place to live is never dull.
For many of us, Bangkok and Thailand is an exotic destination yet a safe country to visit … well as long as you’re not on a moped in Phuket perhaps.
It’s a country full of contrasts, from street vendors to Prada, with a bit of fake bling in between.
From Michelin star restaurants to street food, there is a lot of gold everywhere and poverty all around.
It is sometimes shocking, often charming, there are streets with a spaghetti mess of electrical cables and top end real estate, Bangkok is always surprising.
Manic, modest and mostly mad: a city that never sleeps.
You need never be bored in Bangkok, there is something for everyone at all times of day or night.
You can move from needing modest attire to enter the temples or Grand Palace to the anything-goes party area of town within the same evening.
And if it ever gets way too manic there is always a cheap foot or Thai massage to be had to relax.
Appeals to All
Bangkok has wide appeal and something for every budget from the backpacker market to the high-end luxury market.
You can whizz around on boats in the local canals like the locals or sit in a traffic jam in a limousine!
Zillions of things to do and see
What do you fancy, Bangkok has it all?! From history and culture to relaxing at a spa, or learning to cook Thai food. There is nightlife and there is nightlife! We have ballet and we have bars.
This is a city that is on the move in more ways than one. Upwards. There is nothing better than a cooling sundowner cocktail at a roof top bar perhaps, after a hard day sightseeing…
Interesting culture
Thailand is a fascinating blend of cultures. Buddhism is the main religion. You could visit a different temple every day for years!
Nice people
Having lived in the self-proclaimed Land of Smiles for over a year, it’s true. The Thai people are calmer than the rest of the world that I know! The best example is on the roads, I have never seen road rage despite some unconventional driving. I hardly ever hear anyone sound their horn. Patience is a great virtue in Thailand. Losing your temper is considered very poor form, getting angry in any circumstances never works.
Thailand is often called the most Buddhist country in the world, It is common to see men in orange robes in Bangkok. It is a popular custom for young Thai males to spend a short period of time as a monk in order to make merit for themselves and their families.
It’s a popular custom for young adolescent males in Thailand to spend a short time as a monk, in order to receive merit for their parents and themselves. Here they live a simple, peaceful life with a calm state of mind.
Gastronomic delights
Whether it is the famous street food on every corner or now one of our Michelin Starred restaurants. Food will be a big part of your Bangkok experience. If you have never been on a Thai cooking course, this could be the time to try. Although be warned once you really know of all the ingredients that make every dish, an intricate explosion of delicate flavours you will have a new appreciation for each meal!

Thailand looks like an amazing place. My brother has visited several times and loves it. So much colour and life in your photos. You would make a great tour guide for any visitor there.
I think I could enjoy Bangkok (or any large city) in small doses … one look at the traffic and I shuddered … but the map with its outlines of gardens and sections of the city – now that got my interest! I love to take a map and explore! The food and the smiling faces would make it worthwhile!
Hi Angie That’s the spirit, I’m sure you would love the gardens here, I’m pretty good at showing off the good parts of Bangkok for my visitors and avoiding the seedy parts of town! Bangkok, would be a big change from your tranquil part of the world, full of snowy pure air and no-one in sight for sure.
Thank you for stopping by today.
