Our World Tuesday Graphic

We are having a cracking start to spring here in Melbourne Australia.
Yes, in the words of the Beatles…
Here comes the sun (du dn du du)
Here comes the sun
And I say
Its alright

Little darling
Its been a long cold lonely winter…
Watch out Australia – Here comes the Sun!
Umm, well not exactly…
We did have some really cold days, but overall throughout the land,
Australia has just experienced its warmest 12 months since climate records began.
In Victoria, it was the warmest winter on record, just pipping the winter of 2005.

Sunrise in Delhi
We all love to see the sun, above is one of my favourite photos of sunrise in Delhi.
How many times when we’re on holiday do we take photos which show the sunshine?
This week here in Melbourne we have been scrambling for our sunnies (sunglasses) and the streets are full of people in their boardies (long surfing shorts) and thongs (flip flops)…Melbourne is in the grip of Footy finals fever, we’re enjoying the warmth of the sun on our backs and life’s good mate…

Or is it…?
Victoria is one of the most fire-prone areas in the world.
These above average temperatures also bring with it a higher risk of bush fires.

The timing and severity of Victorian grassfires could depend on spring rainfall patterns…

This map below shows where authorities expect higher-than-usual fire activity this summer (in pink).

We remember that dreadful day, not so very long ago, when on February 7th, 2009 the Black Saturday fires swept through parts of Victoria and 173 people lost their lives, over 400 people were injured.

So whilst we enjoy these days warming up, we get out our broad brimmed hats, we slip, slap, slop on our sunscreen, and head of to the beach, we are aware that not everyone is so excited for the Summer ahead.
I am going to do my sun salutations in my yoga class with a little more energy this week
and wish everyone on this side of the world a happy, sunny and safe summer.

Thank you for joining me for Our World Tuesday where family-friendly bloggers share images of their world and tell a little bit of the story about the place.
