Magnificent Marysville

Things to see, do and love whilst visiting Marysville

Hello, everyone. It’s lovely to see you again as we wander Victoria. Today, we are off visit Marysville, only 90 minutes from Melbourne.
Today, I’m taking you back to the magnificent town of Marysville in the Yarra Valley in Victoria, Australia. It deserves our extra attention because despite being almost completely destroyed in the 2009 Black Saturday bushfires, the town is thriving and reviving and is big on small town charm. It is only 90 minutes from Melbourne.
So, if you’ve got time, grab a cuppa and come with me!
Here’s my Blue Wren Marysville mug. It’s rather appropriate, don’t you think?

What to see, do and love in Marysville.

Maryville is a place to take in nature, enjoy hiking and breathe in the fresh air. There is a vast amount of forest to explore.

Black Spur Drive

One of the things I love about a trip to Marysville is the 30 Km Black Spur drive into the town from Healesville. Hang on tight, as this road takes plenty of twists and turns, but on every bend, the ‘wows’ get better and better.
I love this view of the trees taken through the sunroof, don’t you? It is surely one of Victoria’s most spectacular drives, winding as it does through the lush rainforests with its humongous trees and ferns.

Maryville Tourist Information Centre

The Marysville Tourist Information Centre is a great place to start. It is easily found on the main street. In addition to information on the local area and a small gift shop, there is the small, not-to-be-missed Phoenix Museum.
For more information, see the  Marysville Tourism Website.

The Phoenix Museum

The Phoenix Museum shares first-hand accounts of Black Saturday. The day in February 2009 when Australia’s worst bushfire swept through the town. Forty-five people in Marysville alone lost their lives that day, and most of the buildings were destroyed.

Steavenson Falls

The whole area is great for hiking. We chose to visit the iconic Steavenson Falls, which is an easy walk and very beautiful even after a long hot summer.
