Melbourne’s Spring has arrived!
Bursting in unannounced.
Leaving some of us scurrying to the back of the wardrobe
in search of something half decent to wear.

Melbourne’s Spring blossom
With temperatures in the high 20’s Celsius,
our garden bursts into bloom,
demands attention,
and my hayfever sneezes
echo around.

Hello Spring – nice to see you!
It’s a great time of year in Melbourne,
we have the lazy days of summer ahead of us.

Lillies in the garden
We also have a
few big exams to get through,
as the next few months
will see the end of High School life for our son
and a university degree completed for daughter number 2.

I say ‘we‘ because as any parent will know,
it does feel like you are actually sitting the exams.
Unfortunately, unlike the Year 1 project on natural disasters
this is now totally out of your hands,
and worryingly so…

Spring bursts forth – for Pink Saturday
Spring is the time to be seen out and about in Melbourne.
This is the season of the Spring Racing Carnival
and whilst we still technically have a hoof of a racehorse,
let’s just say
I do not need to fret at the moment
about needing a hat for the races. (sob sob)

Anyway, you’ve guessed it
Melbourne Cup weekend in November
is also exam time.
Yes our race might stop the nation,
but not the International Baccalaureate
 English Literature exam!

So it is not really the time for this Melbourne Mum
to be seen out and about in a gorgeous frock
sipping champagne.

My Melbourne Spring garden

Oh no, I will be at home
making smoothies with added ‘Mind’ or ‘Energy’ powder
The whole house wafting
with my calming aromatherapy oils…

And this is just for me,
I really was hoping to find that inner
Zen Yoga Mum before Spring hit!

I love it when my Japanese Maple comes back to life!

This weekend is Footy Finals weekend,
a huge big deal in Melbourne.

All year you could be forgiven for thinking there
is nothing much else happening in the world
other than our beloved
Aussie Rules Football.

Our Australian Football League is a game
played with an oval ball
on a round pitch
between a whole load of physical men
(and a growing group of women,
but not in the Grand Final.)
Our team Hawthorn are playing
but we only get two tickets…

I’ve been abandoned.
I’m Home Alone.
Just me, a huge pile of ironing
and the Crazy Poodle ‘I’m Pet of the Week’ you know.
It appears everyone else is having the afternoon off from studies.

Melbourne Cricket Ground – Hawthorn Vs Sydney Swans Grand Final
Mr Wren times his flight back from a week working in Asia perfectly.
With just enough time to dump the suitcase of washing
and hand me back my diamond wedding ring.
With slightly less of a ta-ra
than when he first gave it to me, I might add.

I carelessly lost a diamond last month
and he had it replaced by the original Hong Kong jeweller.

My fault I suppose
no time to do the full ‘I love you’ bit,
there was a match to get to you know…

Got my diamond back!

I do get a gift of some perfume
from the Duty Free in Singapore
and he takes me out to breakfast to catch up.
His week all corporate entertaining and budget meetings
mine all washing, cooking and the odd dog walk.
Before gathering up daughter No 2 after her soccer training
and off they rush to watch Tom Jones and Ed Sheeran,
the pre-match entertainment at Melbourne Cricket Ground.
Super Dad!

MCG – Pre-match excitement September 2014

So it’s me, the Crazy Poodle and Olivia Newton John
singing the national anthem on the telly.
Advance Australia Fair!
My plan is to do the ironing during the match
and the gardening during the quarter breaks
SuperMum!

By quarter time the Crazy Poodle
is getting a tad bored of playing
dress-ups in the 2013 Hawks scarves…
and the ironing is still looking at me.
The phone goes.

Crazy Poodle – Top Footy dog!

There are 95,000 people crammed into the ‘G
the rest of Melbourne are watching somewhere
and gotta love her,
I have a friend who is not that interested.
‘It’s a lovely afternoon, do you fancy a dog walk?’
The Crazy Poodle wags his tail…
‘Sure, why not?’ I say!

Postscript: You’ll be pleased to know that
Hawthorn win
back to back Premierships,
and the ironing is yet to be done!

‘We’re a happy team at Hawthorn,
We’re the mighty, fighty Hawks!’

Linking with the following,
thanks to our lovely hosts.
