DAY FOUR – Jaisalmer to Jaipur

Over breakfast – plain toast and jam for me – we catch up on the events from last night. The Camel Safari to watch the sunset and BBQ dinner sounded lovely. Despite other tour groups everyone manages to find their own sand dune and out of nowhere apparently a young lad appeared with a bucket of cold-ish beer and chips!

Thar Desert Camp – restaurant

We drive back through the desert to the Mandir Palace and are greeted by the friendly face of the Hotel Manager and relax until we are taken to the overnight train to Jaipur.

The restaurant at the Mandir Palace pack us up some dinner – naan, chapatti, spicy potato, aloe gobi, boiled eggs and bananas, they forget the eggs but throw in some pickles instead…..

There is a massive Hindu Parade through the town, which blocks the entrance to our Hotel and Singh is unable to get the car in to pick us up.
He quickly arranges two auto-rickshaws and the luggage is packed in, for the bumpy ride, twisting and turning through the small back streets to arrive at the Jaipurs Train Station. our carriage is locked and we huddle up to the side of the train to find some shade.

Once aboard the train we find our carriage has four sleeping berths to the right of the passage and two on the left. Each bed has a pillow, two fresh laundered sheets and a blanket. We are in 2 class air conditioned, we have a curtain we can pull across for privacy.

We read and eat, then get a surprisingly good nights sleep, rocked around as the train rolled to Jaipur, finally arriving at 4.45am.
