Little Wandering Wren Travels

My Story

Hello everyone, and welcome. I am especially pleased to meet you if you are joining me for the first time through the Tenth Anniversary of the  Blogging from A to Z Challenge 2019.

April is going to be quite a month, as together we whizz around the world on Wren’s Worldwide Wanderings. If you are up for some armchair travel and like the idea of having an around the world airline ticket with me, then take a seat – no passport needed!

137 Pillars Suites & Residences, Bangkok

How many years have you’ve been interested in the travel?

I am a Brit and an Aussie and I have been travelling since I was three years old when my family first landed in Singapore. There was a chunk of life when I remained based in the UK which gave me a stable education, a university degree and a taste of professional corporate life. If only there had been a career choice as digital nomad back in the day…

The last twenty-five years have been spent as a trailing spouse, being a crazy soccer mum and making a right mess of our friends’ address books!

I now have grown up kids (and the dog) scattered across the globe and am loosely based out of Bangkok, Thailand.

Where have you travelled, where do you enjoy most?

So far I have travelled to 57 of the 195 countries of the world, only a disappointing thirty per cent of the world – could do better Wren!

I have lived in Australia, Belgium, Hong Kong, Singapore, Thailand and the United Kingdom

I have travelled to Botswana, China, Egypt, New Zealand, Turkey, Indonesia, Turkey, Greece, Italy, Spain, Croatia, France, Monaco, Russia, Portugal, Denmark, Germany, Austria, Poland, Luxembourg, Cambodia, Vietnam, Myanmar, Ireland, The Philippines and the USA and the beat goes on, as they say …

I am more familiar with Asia and Europe but my favourite countries have been Malawi, Guatemala and Laos.

What travel do you have planned for 2019?

It’s another wonderfully busy year of travel. I am currently in Europe, writing this from the city of love – can you guess where I am?

I have a Fitcation in Indonesia, a trip to Vietnam, six nights camping at the world’s biggest Contemporary Performing Arts Festival, we’re off to cheer on England at the Rugby World Cup in Japan… as well as other trips to Europe and Australia.

What is your travel style?

I would say I’m a FIT luxe-adventurer but… I like to mix it up a bit, as the Fitcation and the blow-up mattress at a rock festival will test out! If it’s authentic then, of course, I want the Japanese tatami mat and the trekking homestay.

FIT as in free independent traveller  – I like to be organised but not over organised. I am our Travel Agent, Destination Advisor (yay for Trip Advisor!) and route planner.

My adventure with come from being out of my comfort zone, in non-familiar surroundings, not from an adrenaline rush. I would rather be in a jeep on safari than on a Bangkok motorbike taxi. Let me cruise around the Whitsundays rather than jet ski in Borneo.

I will happily bike, paddle or hike on my holidays, just don’t ask me to Bungee jump or skydive. Anything with nature and yoga, I’m in!

What about you, what is your travel style?

How has Little Wandering Wren evolved?

Little Wandering Wren was established in 2012. The primary purpose was to journal for family and friends, whilst on a 100-day adventure to visit our son. He was attending boarding school in the foothills of the Himalayas, India at the time, like they do, if their Mum’s called Wandering Wren.

In 2014, the blog had expanded to include readers from across the globe. I was amazed that my every day Aussie life recounting tales from our life with kids, a crazy poodle and an ever revolving open door policy of non-stop guests from across the globe was of interest. Through Little Wandering Wren I have met the nicest people, both online and some in person.

Well, if I can’t travel the world, then let the world come to us!’ was my cry.

By 2017, be careful what you wish for … and my world was spinning with a move to Bangkok, Thailand. With family and friends in Australia and the United Kingdom, my life is nowadays spent dashing between three continents, with about one-third of my life spent in hotels in countries in between.

In 2019 Little Wandering Wren – chats and Little Wandering Wren travels split into two spaces, mostly as I wanted to develop my own branding on a Word Press site, but loved my original Blogger blog and can’t bear to leave that space completely.

What do you want to achieve from Little Wandering Wren?

This is my happy space on the internet. It is a creative outlet for my writing, for recording my travels and inspiring others to see the world either through their own travels or through me – #seetheworldwithme is a much-used hashtag!

How can we connect?

I am available through all the usual social media outlets above, @lwwren or directly through wrensrambles@gmail.com. Do drop me a line, I always love to chat.

Ok, let’s get this show on the world. Remember ‘not all those who wander are lost!’

Chocks away!
