Thank you to Wyndham Hotels & Resorts for inviting me to Staycation at Wyndham Garden Bangkok Sukhumvit 42 for my 157 Thailand hotel stay since Covid started in Feb 2020.
Those of us who love a modern Japanese-inspired hotel will feel very much at home here, either for a few days or a long stay.
As Japan was my last international destination before the pandemic, I appreciated the trip down memory lane with the food and the bathroom! All the while loving the fabulous Bangkok views.
You have 185 rooms and suites in three sizes to choose from. The largest is the two-bedroom Suite at 77 Sq ms. All rooms have balconies to enjoy the views.
There are many similarities between this hotel and the previous one at Ramada By Wyndham Bangkok Sukhumvit 87. Both rooms were Duplex-style rooms, both offered a hotel short stay and a long-stay Branded Residence option with a strong emphasis on service.
The main difference was the Ekkamai location and decor.
Table of Contents
Location
Found in trendy Ekkamai known as a vibrant area of Bangkok for restaurants, cafes & bars. The hotel is a 5 mins walk from Sukhumvit Road and Ekkamai BTS station in Central Bangkok. It’s a popular area for both long and short-term stays.
The hotel has great city views as there are few high-rise buildings around it.
Branded Residence
Wyndham Garden also offers a long stay opportunity via their Branded Wyndham Garden Residence. We took the opportunity whilst there to look at the rooms styled for the long-term stay.
Whether you stay as a hotel guest or a resident you’ll enjoy a full-service Bangkok condo experience You’ll find all the extras (kitchenette, washing machine, etc) and a concierge on hand to make your stay especially comfortable.
Lobby & Design
The architectural design is modern Japanese with two lobby and lounge entrance spaces for the mixed-use condo occupancy. Granite and marble are used on the ground floor.
Duplex Bed Room
The Duplex room, with a queen bed, is found upstairs, beware the bathroom is downstairs, which some may find inconvenient.
There is a working desk, wardrobe, and a separate air conditioning unit in the upstairs bedroom. The bedside table and lamp are not easily accessible from the bed, but the crisp new bedlinen and the comfy pillow-top mattress bed make up for this!
Kitchen/Dining
The small kitchenette with a sink has everything you need for self-catering for the nights when you prefer to do so.
You’ll find a two-ring electric hob and a microwave oven with cooking supplies; a chopping board and knives, a drip coffee machine, and a fridge. A small dining room table with two chairs.
The washing machine is found outside on the balcony.
LIVING AREA
Two-person sofa with green and yellow cushions faces the 55-inch flat-screen HDTV for all your Netflix and Youtube options (Bring your Netflix password!). Abstract Japanese artwork of mountains on the wall behind complete the styling.
The room has high ceilings and good city views from the oversized soundproofed windows.
It is spotlessly clean. The only nod to the past couple of years is a ‘Count on US’ notice together with a packet of face masks with a small hand sanitiser bottle.
Bathroom
The large bathroom has a short deep Japanese-style bath with a separate shower A bathroom geared to the popular Japanese market with the high-tech toilet bidet.
Toiletries
Included in your stay is a set of toiletries and a makeup mirror.
The convenience packs included a toothbrush, a sewing kit, and a bar of soap. The shower gel, shampoo, and conditioner were in refillable bottles, following the Wyndham Green Program.
Kei Izakaya Japanese Restaurant
I’m a great fan of Japanese food and so I was very happy to enjoy a delicious banquet dinner here at Kei Izakaya Japanese Restaurant.
Based on the traditional Japanese Izakaya an informal setting offering a wide variety of sake, whisky, and local and imported beers and wines.
Breakfast
The breakfast menu was a choice of Japanese, Thai, and Western foods. From Cheesy Omelette, or Rice Porridge with pork, shrimp, or salmon to Saba Shioyaki or Teriyaki Grilled Saba. I choose Scrambled eggs with smoked salmon.
KEI MATCHA & KOHI Kafeology
Kafelogy has burst onto Bangkok’s ever-developing coffee culture with five branches across Bangkok. This branch offers Japanese Boba and Tea Shop. It is found in front of the reception and main building. House-roasted organic coffee is brewed in-house, and the matcha is of premium quality.
Outdoor Swimming Pools
There are two saltwater outdoor rooftop infinity swimming pools.
The one on the 7th Floor of the smaller tower for hotel guests was nothing remarkable apart from you’d be very happy to find it for a cool down splash after a hot days sightseeing. It has a wooden shade roof which provides great sun/rain protection.
However, there was a wow of a larger saltwater infinity swimming pool and a secluded and private rooftop onsen pool which were fabulous on the 31st floor. The rooftop gardens and the city views make for a special ‘living the high life’ relaxation area!
Just check the latest Covid rules if you are booking as a hotel guest. It appeared that during the pandemic the different relaxation areas were separated with hotel guests having access to Floor 7 recreation facilities and residents with Floor 31 recreation facilities.
Technogym Gym
There are two gyms on-site, found on both rooftops.
These Technogyms are open 24/7 for hotel and long stay guests with incredible views of Bangkok with a dedicated yoga room.
Tips for your stay
Soi 42 is a one-way street towards Sukhumvit Road and now that the traffic is returning to Bangkok can be congested so allow a little extra time in your journey.
My tip is to ask for the high floors as the city views are amazing from high up. Also note any forward-facing rooms below Floor 7, will have their views obscured by the front building.
Overall experience
Formally known as Siamese Exclusive 42 this hotel is a great choice for those looking for a home away from home in the Ekkamai/ Thong Lor area of Bangkok. Those rooftop views and gardens are spectacular. The rooms have all you need and more for a great stay and the beds are really comfy. Thank you Wyndham Garden Bangkok, I loved staying with you and will be back!

Great report on your staycation. The Wyndham looks like a beautiful place to stay.
Take care, enjoy your day!
Thanks Eileen, I’m so happy to see that tourists and business travellers are coming to Bangkok again. It’s great to see things returning back to normal and new hotels are opening. This hotel was fab!
