It’s Queen’s Birthday weekend
and we’ve escaped the city to the Mornington Peninsula,
an hours drive from Melbourne.

Monday is a public holiday and it’s a popular weekend to get away.
We drove through torrential rain,
so it was great to arrive to a sunny afternoon.

Winter at the beach is always lovely
and we head off for one of the Crazy Poodle’s favourite walks,
the dog beach at Blairgowrie.
We park at the Blairgowerie Yacht club and walk left towards Sorrento
along the sheltered front beach of Port Phillip Bay.
We soon get to the dog off lead area and it’s doggie heaven.

Dog walking at the beach is getting increasingly difficult,
several of the ocean beaches near us,
restrict dog access to before 9am, and then only on a lead.

There is much concern to protect wildlife in the area,
especially the Hooded Plovers.

This makes the off lead dog beach extremely popular
It’s quite a party on the beach
There are always new friends to meet.

It takes about 30 mins to walk along the sand
to the Collins Settlement site, which dates back to 1803.
This area was the first area in Victoria to be settled by the British.

We hope you are having a lovely weekend
Sorry I can’t stay longer, but we don’t have Wifi here,
although the good news is that we do have heating!
