Thank you to Wyndham Hotels & Resorts for inviting me to Stay at Wyndham Garden Bangkok Sukhumvit 42. Those who love a modern Japanese-inspired hotel will feel at home here for a few days or an extended stay.
[Updated December 2024]
As I’m a great lover of Japan, I appreciated the trip down memory lane with the food and the bathroom, and I loved the fabulous Bangkok views.
You have 185 rooms and suites in three sizes to choose from. The largest is the two-bedroom Suite at 77 m2. All rooms have balconies where you can enjoy the views.
There are many similarities between this hotel and the previous one at Ramada By Wyndham Bangkok Sukhumvit 87. Both rooms were Duplex-style, and both offered a hotel short-stay and a long-stay Branded Residence option with a strong emphasis on service.
The main difference was the Ekkamai location and decor.
Location
The hotel is located in trendy Ekkamai, a vibrant area of Bangkok with restaurants, cafes, and bars. It is a 5-minute walk from Sukhumvit Road and Ekkamai BTS station in central Bangkok. It’s a popular area for both long—and short-term stays.
The hotel has excellent city views as there are few high-rise buildings around it.
Branded Residence
Wyndham Garden also offers a long-stay opportunity via its Branded Wyndham Garden Residence. We took the opportunity to look at the rooms designed for long-term stays while we were there.
Whether you stay as a hotel guest or a resident, you’ll enjoy a full-service Bangkok condo experience. You’ll find all the extras (kitchenette, washing machine, etc) and a concierge on hand to make your stay especially comfortable.
Lobby & Design
The architectural design is modern Japanese, with two lobby and lounge entrance spaces for the mixed-use condo occupancy. Granite and marble are used on the ground floor.
Duplex Bed Room
The Duplex room, with a queen bed, is upstairs. However, the bathroom is downstairs, which some may find inconvenient.
The upstairs bedroom has a working desk, wardrobe, and a separate air conditioning unit. The bedside table and lamp are not easily accessible from the bed, but the crisp new bed linen and comfy pillow-top mattress make up for this!
Kitchen/Dining
The small kitchenette with a sink has everything you need for self-catering for the nights when you prefer to do so.
You’ll find a two-ring electric hob and a microwave oven with cooking supplies, a chopping board and knives, a drip coffee machine, and a fridge, as well as a small dining room table with two chairs. The washing machine is found outside on the balcony.
LIVING AREA
A two-person sofa with green and yellow cushions faces the 55-inch flat-screen HDTV for all your Netflix and YouTube options (Bring your Netflix password!)—abstract Japanese artwork of mountains on the wall behind completes the styling.
The room has high ceilings and good city views from the oversized soundproofed windows. It is spotlessly clean.
Bathroom
The large bathroom has a short deep Japanese-style bath with a separate shower A bathroom geared to the popular Japanese market with the high-tech toilet bidet.
Toiletries
Included in your stay is a set of toiletries and a makeup mirror.
The convenience packs included a toothbrush, a sewing kit, and a bar of soap. Following the Wyndham Green Program, the shower gel, shampoo, and conditioner were in refillable bottles.
SM168 Restaurant & Bar
I’m a great fan of Japanese food, so I was very happy to enjoy a delicious banquet dinner at Kei Izakaya Japanese Restaurant. However, this restaurant has subsequently closed and been replaced by SM168.
This is what is said about the restaurant: “Immerse yourself in our cozy setting adorned with subtle Japanese-style decoration. Our diverse menu includes a fresh sushi bar and tantalizing Thai and Western delicacies, all complemented by a selection of exotic beverages.”
Restaurant Hours:
Breakfast: 6:00–10:30
Lunch & Dinner: 11:00–22:00
Based on the traditional Japanese Izakaya, this is an informal setting offering a wide variety of sake, whisky, and local and imported beers and wines.
Breakfast
The breakfast menu offered a choice of Japanese, Thai, and Western foods, from cheesy Omelettes or Rice Porridge with pork, shrimp, or salmon to Sab Shioyaki or Teriyaki Grilled Sab. I chose Scrambled eggs with smoked salmon.
Cafe’In Premium
Update Kafelogy: The cafe I visited was replaced by CafeinPremium.
Outdoor Swimming Pools
There are two saltwater outdoor rooftop infinity swimming pools.
The one on the 7th Floor of the smaller tower for hotel guests was nothing remarkable apart from the fact that you’d be very happy to find it for a cool-down splash after a hot day of sightseeing. It has a wooden shade roof, which provides great sun/rain protection.
However, the 31st floor featured a larger saltwater infinity swimming pool and a secluded and private rooftop onsen pool, which were fabulous. The rooftop gardens and the city views make for a special ‘living the high life’ relaxation area!
However, hotel guests have access to Floor 7 recreation facilities, and residents to Floor 31 recreation facilities.
Technogym Gym
There are two gyms on-site, found on both rooftops.
These Technogyms are open 24/7 for hotel and long-stay guests with incredible views of Bangkok with a dedicated yoga room.
Tips for your stay
Soi 42 is a one-way street towards Sukhumvit Road. It can be congested, so allow a little extra time in your journey.
My tip is to ask for the high floors, as the city views are amazing from high up. Also, note that any forward-facing rooms below Floor 7 will have their views obscured by the front building.
Overall experience
Formally known as Siamese Exclusive 42, this hotel is an excellent choice for those looking for a home away from home in Bangkok’s Ekkamai/ Thong Lor area. Those rooftop views and gardens are spectacular. The rooms have all you need and more for a great stay, and the beds are really comfy.
Thank you Wyndham Garden Bangkok, I loved staying with you and will be back!

Take care, enjoy your day!
Thanks Eileen, I’m so happy to see that tourists and business travellers are coming to Bangkok again. It’s great to see things returning back to normal and new hotels are opening. This hotel was fab!
